The Dallas Neuropsychological Institute was the first and remains the oldest neuropsychological practice to be established in the North Texas area.

In 1986 the practice expanded to include a European research and teaching branch.

Also in 1988, DNI founded the first Spanish language neuropsychological laboratory in Texas. This was followed by the acquisition of Psicologia Clinica Hispana and by medical missions to Venezuela.

For this work, Dr. Hopewell was presented in 1990 with the Certificado de Reconocimiento por valiosa en el desarrollo e implementacion del curso de Cuidados Primarios Orientados Para La Comunidad - by Violeta Matos, the Consul General de Venezuela.

In 1992 this first award by the Venezuelan government was followed by a second, the Certificado de Reconocimiento como Visitante Distinguido; desarrollo e implementacion del curso de Cuidados Primarios Orientados Para La Comunidad - by Idalba Guevara de Almeida, the governor (Alcadesa ) of the Municipio Sotillo, Estado Anzoatequi, Venezuela.

In 1997 and 1998, Dr. Hopewell undertook further Spanish language training at Pan American University where his named is registered on the special "Nivel Tres" plaque at the University as well as training at the Instituto Allende, Universidad de Guanajuato, in San Miguel de Allende, Guanajuato, Mexico

In 1990, Dr. Hopewell was named Neuropsychologist of the Year for Texas by the Texas Psychological Association.
